January:Joan and Alfred cancel their previously scheduled trip to South Africa. 

March: Alfred Steele is admitted into the hospital in Manhattan. New York for ten days.

March: Joan's twin daughters, Cathy and Cindy, contract the measles.​

March 2: Joan guest stars on the television show "Cesar's Hour."​​

March 18: Alfred Steele has an operation in a New York hospital.

Late March: Joan accompanies Alfred Steele on Pepsi-Cola trips to Tulsa, Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas. 

April 1: Joan spends Easter in New Orleans, Louisiana with Alfred Steele and her twin daughters, Cathy and Cindy. ​​

Mid-April: Joan accompanies Alfred Steele on a Pepsi-Cola trip.

April 15: Joan accompanies Alfred Steele to a Pepsi-Cola plant dedication ceremony in Ottawa, Kansas. ​​

May 1: Joan and Alfred Steele travel by train from Manhattan, New York to Wilmington, Delaware to attend the annual Pepsi-Cola shareholder's meeting.​

Early May: Joan accompanies Alfred Steele on a Pepsi-Cola trip to several cities in eastern America.

Early May: Joan and Alfred Steele travel to North Carolina.

Mid-May: Joan and Alfred Steele travel to ​​Chicago, Illinois and Minneapolis, Minnesota. ​​

Mid-May: Joan and Alfred Steele take a short vacation to Bermuda.

Mid-June: Christina Crawford graduates high school at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in Pasadena, California. 

Mid-June​​: Joan and Alfred Steele travel from Manhattan, New York to Los Angeles, California. 

Early July: Joan and Alfred Steele travel from Los Angeles, California to Manhattan, New York.​​

July 24: Joan and Alfred Steele travel by ship to Europe.​​

Early August: Joan and Alfred Steele travel to Naples and Rome, Italy​​.

Early August: Joan and Alfred Steele sail on the SS Cristoforo Colombo from Italy to Beriut, Lebanon.

Early August: Joan and Alfred Steele travel to Baghdad. ​​​​

August 5-11: Joan's daughter, Christina, ​performs in the play "Witness For The Prosecution" at the Kennebunkport Playhouse in Kennebunkport, Maine.

Mid-August: Joan and Alfred Steele travel from Baghdad to ​​Basra, Kuwait and Cairo, Egypt. 

Late August: Joan​​ and Alfred Steele travel to Rome, Italy.

September: Joan and Alfred Steele travel to South Africa. ​​

September 16: Joan and Alfred return to Manhattan, New York.​​

Late September: Joan and Alfred attend a convention in Washington, D.C. whereby Alfred is awarded the "Best Advertising Man of The Year" award.​​

October 8: Joan accompanies Alfred Steele to a Pepsi-Cola plant dedication ceremony in Muncie, Indiana. ​​

Early October: Joan and Alfred Steele travel to Los Angeles, California. ​​

October 13: Joan and Alfred travel from Los Angeles, California to San Francisco, California to attend the Henry Luce Businessmen's Conference. 

Mid-October: Joan and Alfred travel from San Francisco, California to Los Angeles, California.

Mid-October: Joan and Alfred travel from Los Angeles, California to New York City.

Mid-October: Joan and Alfred attend a luncheon in honor of Queen Elizabeth at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York. ​​​​​​

October 26: Joan receives an award at a George Eastman House dinner in Manhattan New York.​​

November 27: Joan appears in a national Pepsi-Cola commercial with her husband, Alfred Steele and daughters Cathy and Cindy.​ The commercial airs during the television presentation of "Annie Get Your Gun," starring Mary Martin. The commercial involves the family sitting together in a living room setting.

December 3: Joan hosts a cocktail party at 21 in Manhattan, New York.​ The cocktail party is to benefit Jane Russell's WAIF orphan adoption organization. Joan had recently been elected the organization's New York president.

December 4: Joan attends a benefit performance of "Wild Is The Wind" starring Anna Magnani. The performance is held in Manhattan, New York, and is to benefit the Waif orphan adoption organization.​

December 8: Joan appears as a mystery guest on the television game show "What's My Line?"​​
