The invitation to John Springer's book publication party for his book "They Had Faces Then;" which was held at the Rainbow Room on September 23rd, 1974. Springer announced Joan as the party's hostess by means of this invitation without previously obtaining Joan's consent to act as hostess. However, Joan still performed her duties as hostess and left the party early. This event would be Joan's final public appearance at a large gathering.
