Character Summary: Jo Courtney is the madam of a 1930's New Orleans bordello. At the end of the film Jo is sentenced to prison, along with her co-conspirators, for her illegal business dealings.

Joan's involvement in the production:
     ​In February 1961, Joan and Barbara Stanwyck were both sent the script of "Walk On The Wild Side".​​​​​​ In early April, Barbara Stanwyk was cast.
At the time, a news columnist commented that Joan may have declined the film because the character of "Jo" was hinted to be a lesbian.
