In February 1961, Joan and Barbara Stanwyck were both sent the script of "Walk On The Wild Side". In early April, Barbara Stanwyk was cast.
At the time, a news columnist commented that Joan may have declined the film because the character of "Jo" was hinted to be a lesbian.
